(Slow No Clutch) What if you do this upshift (again) slowly without using the clutch but by trying to match rpm's while in neutral (like you can in a family car)? I.e. Lift off the throttle slowly, press the clutch slowly, (revs drop), engage the higher gear. (Slow Clutch) What would happen practically if you upshift like in a roadcar. What could go wrong, or will it be 95% foolproof? Does it depend how much you lift off the gas?ġ. (Fast No Clutch) What about when you do a fast upshift not using the clutch? If you just quickly lift slightly / or fully off the gas and engage the higher gear. Can anything go wrong with an upshift if you use the clutch like this?ġ. ![]() (Fast Clutch) If you just do a normal upshift, dip the clutch very fast while lifting the throttle it will just shift up I presume. I understand that it is unlikely that there is someone knowledgeable enough to answer them all, so even if you know a tiny snippet of info on a particular question if would help us tremendously.ġ. What would practically happen / what would you experience in the examples below for a circa 1991 manual F1 car. Is there anyone here who has driven a manual F1 car in anger or knows about its gearbox operation who might be able to answer the practical questions below? These two effects are computed independently, x is customisable generally or by car, y is customisable generally or by car and can be different for upshifts or downshifts. If you do NOT clutch past x% then the gear will only engage if the difference in speeds of gears is less than y%. If you clutch past x% the gear will always engage (not sure if that is correct but that is the current mode). You see in building an accurate gearbox for the simulator we can alter values such as: His feet are tapdancing away on those pedals like there is no tomorrow. One slow lap where he uses the clutch almost everywhere:Īnd one insane qualifying run where he sporadically uses it, predominantly on upshifts(?), and once on downshift entering spoon. The only visual driving information we have are these 2 footwell video's from Katayama driving a manual Tyrell 021 in '93 We are stuck on the types of gearbox used (synchromesh, dog, half-dog, spur, helical). I'm a part of the team doing the research. ![]() (the reason for choosing that year is that it was the last year that F1 cars were using predominantly manual gearboxes and passive suspension). Guess I'll have to bring it into the dealer. We are busy working on building the world's first 1991 F1 simulation software. I am having the same issues as you describe them. Too weird.mine was also built in August of 2018 with comp package. If you don't mind me asking out of curiosity what year is your m and does it have the competition package?Ģ018 with an August 2018 build date with the comp package. This is in S1 tho S1 is reluctant to downshift, S3 will hold revs to redline and will also downshift super fast. Where it gets confused is when you are in that halfway area, it gets confused at like half peddle, until i give it more gas then it decides to downshift. ![]() To be honest i rarely ever drive in auto but when i do the car has no issue downshifting at WOT. On a side note, does anyone feel like the dct is slow to downshift even in manual mode? The up shifts are instant but any downshift feels slower than a traditional auto. Is this something the car has learned from my driving habits? Will resetting the adaption help?Īnd if so, is the procedure to press the gas pedal down to the floor for 25 seconds in accessory mode? I've been surprised a few times when I just didn't have power and literally had to press the pedal to the floor for it to downshift. S2 will just rev higher but doesn't seem to give much torque under 2.5k rpms while S1 gives it to you in this range.Īnyway, there have been a few instances when I'm merging or need to accelerate and my car really just doesn't like to downshift even though I'm mashing the accelerator. I feel like I'm this setting I get more around town power at low revs. I've been dailying the car more the last two weeks and drive locally on auto/sport plus throttle and shift setting on S1. ![]()
