In short, The King James is still number one, and the New Living is a great comparison in specific instances where it expresses the meaning desired by The Lord within our own specific Kairos time. I believe that the more we modernize The Word of God, the more caution we need to take in not interjecting our own Kairos (at that moment) time meaning as being the absolute & only meaning. Even as "a picture paints a thousand words", with The Word in its original we could say " a word could paint a thousand ideas" or something the like. While the former left an opening for The Holy Spirit to enlighten The Believer, TNLT presents the translators' idea or interpretation of the original meaning, leaving little room for obtaining God-Enlightened meaning as in the original. In the original languages each word painted a picture that can hardly be expressed in a single word, nor verse of scripture in such clear English. I liked it, but found that it has a number of verses which have lost a bit of meaning in translation. I am a fairly strong King James user, as are many Christians because it is considered to be the closest to the original languages but I have completed an entire Study Bible in TNLT. Reviewed by (Rick Lehr Jr, Ocala, FL, US) - The New Living Translation is a good one for comparison because of the more modern and easily understood language. but I don't mind reading it second, now that I've given it a chance. I recommend it as a second Bible that will help to clarify what you may not understand in the older or more accurate but archaic translations. It just uses plainer language to say the same things. I am very pleased to say I don't mind reading it, now that I see that it does not seem to stray from the true concepts. It is not so much a "translation" as a revealing of the concepts in a modern fashion. It has taken the old language and put it in plain and simple modern language. ![]() In the process I discovered that the NLT is simply written, not written for the simple. I teach her in KJV but we sometimes read the NLT to summarize and go over what we have learned because it is easier for her to understand. but who had never read it came into my life. Then a lovely woman who wanted to know more about the Bible she had believed in all her life. ![]() I thought it was for simple people who had trouble reading, so passed it by for my own use. It seemed to strip the beauty out of the language I was familiar with and loved. "Dick and Jane" or "Kim and Wendy" stories. The first time I opened it and read it, it reminded me of my grade school "learning to read books". Needless to say, I was a bit of a snob when it came to the New Living Translation. I study it line by line and write Bible studies sharing what the Lord points out to me in the words.
